Sultan Of Sokoto Declared Sept 1 As Eid-Kabir Day

The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Sept. 1, as the Eid-Kabir  day.  According to the statement made available to newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday, indicate the declaration follows the sighting of the new moon of Zulhijja on Tuesday.  “The advisory committee in conjunction with the National Committee on Moon Sighting received various reports on moon sighting across the country confirming the sighting of new moon of Zulhijja on Tuesday"  He added that Sultan felicitates with all Muslims and wished them Allah’s guidance, blessings and protection.

Decision To Scrap The Post-UTME Was A Mistake. Says Malam Adam Adam

The Federal Government on Tuesday revive post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) screening exercise which was cancelled during 2015/2016 admission exercise.  Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, gave the directive, regretted the earlier decision to cancel the post-UTME screening exercise as a great mistake, said that the volte-face by government was because of the economic challenges that engulfed the nation and the reality on ground. Adam Adam, who gave the above directive during the policy meeting for the 2017/2018 admission exercise with Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and Registrars of tertiary institutions at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja, also directed varsities to ensure that the Post-UTME exercise must be by aptitude test and that students be charged N2,000 as fees.  He said: ’The decision to scrap the post-UTME screening exercise last year was a mistake that must not be repeated as students must be properly scre...

31Days Of Election LASIEC Withheld Ad-Hoc Staff Payment

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission  (LASIEC)   yet to pay the Ad-Hoc staff who were hired for the  Local Government Election which held on  July 22nd  in the  20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state . Exactly 31 days of conducting the election,the Electoral  Commission has failed in his promise to pay its staff  allowances and  bonus  between the range of 15,ooo naira and 50,000 naira. 18 People dead And 18 Missing In China Deadly Deluge

Flood visit China’s northeast has left 18 dead and 18 missing, state media said Monday, after the latest deadly deluge to hit the country this summer. According   Xinhua News Agency . The central and eastern parts of Jilin province were hit by driving rain Thursday and Friday,  More than 110,000 were forced to flee the city of Jilin due to the heavy rain, it said, adding that the government had sent over 32,000 rescue workers to the area. China has been hit by a series of fatal floods this summer, leaving dozens dead and displacing huge numbers of people. Last week authorities said that at least 63 were killed by landslides and floods in central China, which forced 1.6 million to flee. Authorities in the southern region of Guangxi earlier this month said two dozen people had been killed or gone missing due to flooding, which also damaged thousands of houses.

Somolu Resident Lament Over Violence Increasement In The Community

Residents of Somolu area of Lagos on Sunday lamented the increased rate of ferocity in the area. They alleged that violence was not unconnected with the upcoming local government election in the area. It would be recalled that there was sporadic shootings in the area Thursday evening during a rally organised by the All Progressives Congress. The violence resulted to the damage of vehicles, injuries and pandemonium in the area. The spokesperson of Somolu Indegenious Youths, Mr. Shina Abbey, complained that residents in the area were uncomfortable with the security situation in the area. He appealed to political parties not to turn Somolu to a battle ground in the name of election. He said, “It appears that the forth coming LG election which we hope will restore normalty and development to Somolu is turning out to be a doom in the making. “This persistent violence is caused by members of the same APC.
