Senate Sign N30,000 Minimum wage Bill To Law

The Nigeria Upper chamber Senate has approved the sum of N30,000 as the new national minimum wage  for workers on Tuesday.  Following the submission of the report of the ad-hoc committee on new minimum wage headed by Senator Francis.  The upper chamber asked the Federal Government to submit a supplementary budget to cover the new wage structure for consideration and approval. Speaking after passing the minimum wage bill into law, the Senate President,  Bukola Saraki , said ”Let me join our colleagues to commend the efforts of the committee. More importantly, let me commend the patience of  Nigerian  workers and the leadership of the Labour Union, who have over the years been calling for this minimum wage and have carried their efforts responsibly. JAMB Warn Its Candidates Over Examination Malpractices

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned parents and candidates for its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be wary of tutorial centres in the country, saying some of them are breeding grounds for examination malpractices. Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, gave the warning in Abuja on Monday during a meeting of critical stakeholders on strategic planning and preparation for the supervision and administration of the 2019 UTME. “Tutorial operators are causing damages to education, because parents are just there because of results (they churned out) in previous years, so they go to any extent to get good results. They are not teaching these students anything, they are faking results for them, their work is to corrupt the system,” he said. Policeman Shot 14-years-old Girl Over Yahoo Boy's iphone

A resident of Adamo bus-stop, Ikorodu, Lagos, where a policeman shot dead a 14-year-old school girl on Monday, has narrated what transpired. The resident, Fabian Mani, took to Twitter to narrate the incident. He wrote, “A policeman just killed a young girl this evening in my area. “They (policemen) stopped people at the bus stop to search, for whatever reason. “They got a guy’s iPhone and insisted he’s a Yahoo boy because he uses an iPhone. “The guy struggled with them to get his phone. “One of the policemen carelessly took off the safety from his gun and mistakenly fired and the bullet went straight to a little girl of 14 years, that was by her mum’s shop washing dishes. “She was still in her uniform. “What was her crime?? EFFC Re-open Babachir Lawal Case

Babachir Lawal Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has re-arraigned a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and three others before Justice Jude Okeke of a Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama.  Lawal, along with his younger brother, Hamidu Lawal, Suleiman Abubakar, Apeh Monday and two companies, Rholavision Engineering Ltd and Josmon Technologies Ltd, were re-arraigned on an amended 10-count charge bordering on fraud, diversion of funds and criminal conspiracy to the tune of over N500 million. They were earlier arraigned before Justice Okeke on February 13 and the prosecution was meant to open its case yesterday. At the resumed hearing, counsel to EFCC, Offem Uket, told the court that the charges against them had been amended and that they had to take a fresh plea.
