The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom, Mr Nsima Ekere has expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would win the 10 federal constituencies of the state. According to him the reports from other polling units across the state indicated that the exercise was peaceful. He said the APC had campaigned extensively across the state which explained the massive turnout of voters to vote for President Buhari and candidates in the National Assembly elections.  However, Ekere slammed chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for hiring thugs to cause mayhem. Minister for Budget and National Planning, Sen Udoma Udo Udoma, said that Buhari would win today”s election.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Jimi Agbaje, on Saturday said he was concerned about the malfunctioning of the card readers during voting at his polling unit in Apapa. The PDP candidate spoke after he and his wife, Biola, voted at polling unit 004 ,Ward A, Liverpool, Apapa.. The  News Agency of Nigeria  reports that the card reader had rejected Agbaje’s fingerprints, that of his wife and those of three other voters.  They, however, eventually voted after their names and photographs were verified manually on the voter register. The PDP candidate said cases of malfunction of card readers were not good for the credibility of elections.
