BREAKING: Rep Member Shot in Oyo, Temitope Sugar, Dies In UCH

 Hon Temitope Olatoye, A member, representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Temitope Olatoye, popularly known as Sugar, who was earlier reported shot, is dead. Olatoye was shot by suspected thugs in Elesu village in Ward 13, Lalupon, Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Saturday evening. Olatoye, who contested for the seat of Oyo central senatorial seat under the Action Democratic Party was said to have been shot in the head during the election. It was learnt that Sugar was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre of the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. He died at the intensive care unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Saturday, evening, following a gunshot wound he sustained after he was shot in the eye by unknown gunmen in Ibadan. His death report has been confirmed by the Public Relations Unit of the UCH, Ibadan.

Thugs Invade Ogbomoso Polling Unit

Armed thugs invaded Ogbomoso polling unit at Oke Ola Farm Settlement, Unit Four of Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, and carted away thumb-printed ballot papers in all the units in the area. Olamide Adewale, who made a distress call said, “Hoodlums armed to the teeth just invaded unit 4A in Oke Ola farm settlement here in Ogbomoso South local government and forcefully ferried away all the ballot boxes en route Ogbomoso/Oyo road. They went in Oyo direction,” he said. Reports also revealed that the ballot boxes at Ward 3 Unit 3 in Ibadan Northwest were snatched in the presence of security agents around 2pm.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said that his party will clear the polls because it is “the only party” in Lago State. The ex-Governor of Lagos State spoke with the  News Agency of Nigeria  after casting his vote in the Saturday governorship/state Houses of Assembly election in Lagos. “We are going to win because we are the only party in Lagos State. Others are pretenders — they come and they will go away. A leopard cannot change its skin. “Lagos State belongs to the progressives; we are progressives and we will remain progressives,” he said. Tinubu said that Lagos State had been the best in terms of economic development, insisting that right from his tenure as governor till date, the state has witnessed tremendous development. “For Lagos, it has seen tremendous development since I was the governor. Before then, the highest Internally Generated revenue was N600m per month. Now, it is over N30bn.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has won in Lateef Jakande/Femi Okunnu Polling Unit in Ikoyi, where he voted. Sanwo-Olu got 124 votes to defeat his closest contender, Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 26 votes at the polling unit. The candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Babatunde Gbadamosi, came third at the polling unit with two votes. The APC lost the polling unit by six votes to the PDP during the February 23 presidential election. Sanwo-Olu said this in an interview with journalists shortly after voting alongside his wife, Ibijoke, at the Lateef Jankande/Femi Okunnu Polling Unit in Ikoyi. Describing the election day as divine, Sanwo-Olu said it was exactly six months ago that he obtained the form and joined the Lagos governorship race. A former governor of Oyo State, Senator Adewolu Ladoja, said ballot snatchers were operating freely in some polling units across the state. He said he had received reports of ballot-snatching at some polling booths on Iwo Road, Aperin, and Oja Igbo, blaming the incident on inadequate security. The Zenith Labour Party leader spoke on Saturday after casting his vote at Ward 10, Unit 013 on Ondo Street, Bodija Estate, Ibadan. He said, “Compared to two weeks ago, most of the electoral officials got to their stations on time. “But it is regrettable that in some areas like Oja Igbo, Aperin, and Iwo Road, ballot boxes were being snatched. It was a field day for the snatchers. I only hope that something will be done about it. “Whoever emerges should thank God and serve the people to the best of his ability.”

Governor Ajimobi Lament low Voters Turn Out

Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, has lamented the low turn out of voters in Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections in the state. The governor who spoke at his unit 20 polling unit, Ward 11, Ibadan South West local government after voting, told journalists the elections were peaceful in. his polling unit. He however, said the turn out was low compared to what was obtained during the presidential and National Assembly elections. Mr Ajimobi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said since there was still some more time for voting, more voters could still come out to cast their votes. Massive Security In Parts Of Lagos

Heavy security presence and strict enforcement of movement restriction were noticed in some parts of Lagos on Saturday as residents of the state troop out for Governorship and the State Assembly elections.  The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stern-looking army officers were seen took their positions along several roads as early as 6 a.m to effect the restriction order. This is unlike the Feb. 23 Presidential and National Assembly election, which had only a few areas blocked by the army officers and commercial vehicles drivers were seen maneuvering their way. Governorship Election Commence in 29 States

Today, Saturday, March 9, Nigerians across the states will be trooping out to elect new governors and state legislators that will pilot the affairs of the state for the next four years.  Only 29 states will be electing governors today, though the state House of Assembly elections will be conducted in all the 36 states of the federation. Seven of the states won’t be voting for governors because their own elections took place “off season”.  The states are Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Anambra, Kogi, Ondo, Bayelsa and FCT Abuja. As Nigerians come out en masse to cast their votes, Ayeiroyin will be bringing live updates, breaking news and results from all the polling units across Nigeria.  Voting commences at 8am.
