Governorship Election Commence in 29 States

Today, Saturday, March 9, Nigerians across the states will be trooping out to elect new governors and state legislators that will pilot the affairs of the state for the next four years. 

Only 29 states will be electing governors today, though the state House of Assembly elections will be conducted in all the 36 states of the federation. Seven of the states won’t be voting for governors because their own elections took place “off season”. 

The states are Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Anambra, Kogi, Ondo, Bayelsa and FCT Abuja. As Nigerians come out en masse to cast their votes, Ayeiroyin will be bringing live updates, breaking news and results from all the polling units across Nigeria.

Thugs Invade Ogbomoso Polling Unit

Armed thugs invaded Ogbomoso polling unit at Oke Ola Farm Settlement, Unit Four of Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, and carted away thumb-printed ballot papers in all the units in the area. Olamide Adewale, who made a distress call said, “Hoodlums armed to the teeth just invaded unit 4A in Oke Ola farm settlement here in Ogbomoso South local government and forcefully ferried away all the ballot boxes en route Ogbomoso/Oyo road. They went in Oyo direction,” he said. Reports also revealed that the ballot boxes at Ward 3 Unit 3 in Ibadan Northwest were snatched in the presence of security agents around 2pm.
