JAMB Warn Its Candidates Over Examination Malpractices

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned parents and candidates for its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be wary of tutorial centres in the country, saying some of them are breeding grounds for examination malpractices.
Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, gave the warning in Abuja on Monday during a meeting of critical stakeholders on strategic planning and preparation for the supervision and administration of the 2019 UTME.
“Tutorial operators are causing damages to education, because parents are just there because of results (they churned out) in previous years, so they go to any extent to get good results. They are not teaching these students anything, they are faking results for them, their work is to corrupt the system,” he said.
Prof. Oloyede said the examination body has prohibited candidates from bringing ATM cards, key-holders, erasers and other cheating devices to examination hall in its forthcoming 2019 UTME in order to curtail any act of malpractice.
He listed other items that are banned in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres that will play host to the exam to include watches, biro, spy reading glasses, earpiece, recorder, camera, among others.
Speaking further, he disclosed that the Board would soon publish the names of impersonators who took part in JAMB exams within the last 10 years in order to shame them as well as serves as deterrent to others.
