Lagos State Gov Mr Akinwunmi Ambode Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday performed the pre-launch of a $50 million manufacturing plant in Lekki Free Zone, where he expressed optimism that the facility would go a long way to create jobs and boost the nation’s foreign exchange earnings. Speaking at the pre-launch of the factory belonging to Longrich, a Chinese firm,  Ambode said  the facility was another success story of the efforts of the state government in attracting investment, as well as an eloquent confirmation of the strategic importance of the free trade zone to the State’s economy. Conor McGregor Announce His Retirement

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor said on Tuesday he was retiring from the sport, five months after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a controversial title fight. The fight which was held in Las Vegas had sparked a brawl which led to a six-month ban. The 30-year-old, who has a record of 21 wins and four defeats, is still suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his part in the melee. The incident had broken out after his bout with the Russian last October. This marks the second time McGregor has announced on Twitter that he has “retired”. A month after losing to Nate Diaz in March 2016 he said he had decided to “retire young”, but returned to defeat the same opponent later that same year. “Hey guys, quick announcement. UNIPORT Bag 106 First Class Degrees Students For Graduation

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) will on Saturday graduate 9,452 students with 106 of them bagging First Class degrees. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ndowa Lale, said this at a news conference yesterday in Port Harcourt as part of programme to mark the 32nd Convocation Ceremony of the institution. Lale said the conferment of degrees, higher degrees, diploma, certificates and prizes would hold at the university on Friday and Saturday. According to him, the convocation was mainly for students who finished their academic programmes for the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions. “Out of the figure, 106 graduands will receive the First Class Honours,  1,799 Second Class Upper Division,  2,533 Second Class Lower Division while 132 will receive Third Class degrees.

62-Year-Old Man Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing Bread, Toothpaste

For allegedly stealing bread, toothpaste, soap and wine from a store, 62-year-old man, Lukman Babatunde, was yesterday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos. Babatunde, who resides on Lagos Island, is facing a count charge of stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor, Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at 4.00p.m., on March 16, at Trolleys Superstore at 2, Industrial Ave., Yaba.  According to her, the defendant went to the store, posed as a customer and stole four bottles of Black Label wine valued at N31, 200.  Olaluwoye also submitted that Babatunde stole a packet of Dettol soap worth N3, 000. The Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has approved the appointment of Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi as the Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, as well as other management staff. According to a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun, on Monday, other appointments approved by the governor were; Registrar, Mrs Modupe Fawole; Bursar, Mr Olawale Ojesola; Chief Librarian, Dr Samuel Ajala and Director of Works and Services, Stephen Ipadeola. Professor Adebiyi would to take over from the acting rector of the institution, Femi Ipadeola, in substantive capacity. Recall in February, Dr Ipadeola, formerly the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies (FBCS) of the institution was named Rector in an acting capacity. A Kenyan Science teacher, Peter Tabichi on Sunday won the 2019 Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize, as recognition for turning lives around in a school with only one computer, poor internet and a student ratio of 58:1. Winning a $1 million prize, Tabichi will also serve as a global ambassador for the Varkey Foundation, attending public events and speaking in public forums about improving the prestige of the teaching profession. He teaches at a rural Kenyan school in Pwani Village, with only one computer, poor internet and a student-teacher ratio of 58:1. Nearly all his students are from poor families, and almost a third of them are orphans or have only one parent. Tabichi gets online educational content by visiting internet cafes and using them offline in class, according to his profile from the Varkey Foundation.
