MMM Founder Die At 62

MMM founder, Sergey Mavrodi, died of a heart attack on Monday, at the age of 62 in Moscow. According to a report by Moscow-based daily newspaper Moskovskij Komsomolets, the former deputy of the State Duma died in the Russian capital, Moscow, after he felt weakness and pain in the chest area. He was reportedly been rushed to a city hospital in the early hours of Monday before he passed away .

Finalists Students Cry Over Unreleased Result.

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic ( MAPOLY ) indignant Finalists on Monday protest on the streets of Abeokuta, over unreleased results of the final years Higher National Diploma students to enable them partake of the April mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC). It been known that the academic staff of the institution has been in battle with the Ogun State government since the conversion of the polytechnic to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, refused to mark, collate and grade results of the second semester examination, two months after the students had sat for their final papers. The protesters seized the entrance to the polytechnic  which is located at Ogere, also shut its gate and barred academic and management staff access to the campus.

Dubai Court Sentence Journalist 10year Imprisonment

Dubai court yesterday sentenced a 61-year-old British journalist to 10 years in jail followed by deportation for bludgeoning to death his wife with a hammer last summer. The Dubai Court of First Instance modified the main charge against Francis Matthew from premeditated murder to “beating which led to death” of fellow Briton Jane Matthew, also in her 60s, Gulf News said, citing a judgment sheet. Matthew who was editor-at-large at prominent regional English-language daily Gulf News at the time of his arrest was not present at the court to hear the verdict, which remains subject to appeal within 15 days, the newspaper reported .

Senator Denied Fake Certificate

Senator Andy Uba, representing Anambra South Senatorial District,  on Sunday, denied allegation that he forged his West African Examination Council, WAEC, certificate. The lawmaker, in a statement by his media spokesman, Mr. Chike Okeke, said he had consistently used the WAEC certificate he obtained from Union Secondary School, Awkunanaw, Enugu in 1974,with Examination No: 05465/089, saying his classmates from primary school through the university are still alive and traceable.  Alleging attempt to damage and trample upon his reputation through “vilifying and damaging allegations,” he maintained that the allegations were false and malicious, Uba, said some of his other qualifications included a Degree Certificate from California State University, Los Angeles for the award of Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Urban Analysis, as well as his certificate of award of Honourary   Doctorate Degree in Public Administration from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka . ...

Buhari Given insurgents Amnesty

The administration will give unconditional amnesty to insurgents willing to lay down their arm says President Buhari The President stated this on Friday while receiving the freed Dapchi schoolgirls at the presidential Villa. Buhari said the security agencies would not hesitate to deal with those seeking political gains from the abduction. He also asked the security agencies to ensure that there is no repeat of students' abduction . Almost all the freed Dapchi schoolgirls had one skin infection or the other for not bathing for one month.

Cameroon Minister Arrest In Nigeria

Former Minister of Water and Energy in Cameroon, Mr. Atangana Kouna, arrested in Nigeria and flown back home. According to police and local sources, Kouna was arrested amidst a crackdown on high-level corruption in the French African country, Reuters reported on Friday. There were speculations that Kouna was arrested as part of an anti-corruption drive known as Operation Sparrowhawk. Two other persons — a former Ministry of Public Works and the head of a state company, also an ex-rector of the University of Douala — were arrested earlier in the week as part of the operation.

US President Sign Unwilling Federal $1.3trillion Bill

The US President Donald Trump on Friday signed a $1.3 trillion compromise federal spending bill despite being “unhappy” with many of its provisions — thereby averting what would have been the third government shutdown of 2018. Trump said he signed the measure that had passed the Senate just hours earlier “as a matter of national security,” because it dramatically expands military funding and provides for “the largest pay increase” for US troops in over a decade. “There are a lot of things I’m unhappy about in this bill. There are a lot of things we shouldn’t have had in this bill but we were, in a sense, forced (to have) if we want to build our military,” he said in a hastily arranged media event at the White House.
