Ongoing Chaos in Benin City, the Edo State Capital as prisoners in detention are breaking out, jumping fence following an early morning unrest caused by thugs that are said to have hijacked the ENDSARS Protest according to our source. An eyewitness in Benin said that, “The thugs have broken into the Nigerian prisons at Benin Sapele road and are currently setting prisoner free”. – Mr Efosa Mudia Mr Mudia who was on the phone with our correspondent and panting while speaking said, “They stormed the premises of the Sapele Road prisons, from what I can see where I am everyone is scampering for safety, but i saw a few of the prisoners jump out of the fence but i will provide more details to you”. Calls put through to the spokesperson of the Nigerian Prisons Service were not responded to as at the time of filling this report but we shall be updating our readers about the situation in Benin City.

Breaking: NYSC orientation camp to open Nov 10 ― FG

INEC declares Akeredolu winner of Ondo governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared incumbent Governor and All Progressives Congress Candidate (APC) Rotimi Akeredolu, as the winner of just concluded Ondo State Governorship election. He defeated his main challenger and candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, and his Deputy Governor and candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, to emerge the winner. The incumbent governor won 15 of the 18 Local Government Areas results declared by INEC while his closest rival, Jegede, won in three local government areas and Ajayi failed to win none, including his LGA where he lost to his principal. Akeredoku polled 292,830, as against Jegede who garnered 195,791.

Breaking: IGP ban SARs nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed has scrapped the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS). The IGP disbanded the police squad on Sunday, October 11, 2020, after days of demonstrations against the police unit by Nigerian youths. The dissolution of the police squad that was infamous for human rights abuse was announced in a statement by the Force PRO, Frank Mba. The statement said the disbandment of squad was in response to the yearnings of the Nigerian people, adding that all officers of the defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad will be redeployed with immediate effect. The statement reads in part, " In the finest spirit of democratic, citizen-centred and community policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has today, 11th October, 2020, dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where they hitherto existed.

BREAKING: IGP bans FSARs from stop-and-search

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Abubakar Adamu, has banned the personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS). The police force in a statement signed by PPRO, Frank Mba demanded that all stop and search duties and patrols by SARS be terminated with immediate effect. The operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other Tactical Squads of the Force, including the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad and other Tactical Squads operating at the Federal, Zonal and Command levels, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties. Such duties, which include stop -and- search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks and traffic checks, among others are to stop with immediate effect according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, on Sunday. Olamilekan Agbeleshe has emerged winner of the Big Brother Naija Season 5. Fondly known as Laycon, the young lad beat 19 other housemates to be crowned the winner of this year’s reality television show. Laycon was declared the winner of the 2020 lockdown edition of the show on Sunday after he beat other housemates with the highest number of votes from viewers. Fellow housemate, Dorathy, emerged the 1st runner up while Nengi was declared the 2nd runner up. Laycon led by 60 per cent votes followed by Dorathy with 21.85 per cent votes. However, Nengi had 15.03 per cent votes while Neo and Vee had 1.94 per cent and 1.18 per cent votes, respectively.

Six-Month-Old Baby Survives, Mother Dies In Anambra Building Collapse — Police

Police Command in Anambra has confirmed the rescue of a six-month-old baby from the wreckage of a storey building which collapsed at Obosi near Onitsha on Sunday. The Command’s Spokesman, SP Haruna Mohammed,  however, said  in a statement, that the baby’s mother died in the incident while many others sustained injuries. Mohammed, who said the incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m., could not ascertain the identity of the deceased as at press time. He said the corpse had been deposited at a morgue, while the investigation was ongoing to ascertain the cause of the collapse.

Nengi In Tears Has Ozo Slam Eviction

Big Brother Naija, BBNaija housemate, Nengi, on Sunday, broke down in tears as Ozo was evicted from the reality show. He was evicted after scoring the lowest votes in the house. He is the second of the four nominated housemates to be evicted in the 9th week of the show. Kano State Reopen Private And Public Schools

Kano State on Sunday reopened its private and public boarding secondary schools. Day schools will open on Monday, Commissioner of Education, Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru, disclosed on Sunday. The Commission said the schools reopening are those with students sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). He said the schools have been fumigated and decontaminated to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. “In further compliance with the COVID-19 protocols for ensuring safety and protection of our teaching staff and students, we have also provided PPEs to the schools across the State. “As I speak with you, I am on my way to inspect one of the boarding schools to ensure everything is well prepared,” he said.

Obaseki achieved the feat after amassing massive votes . Recall that he had his final campaign rally in Benin City, said that with the support of Edo people and the endorsements by over 100 groups in the state, he was certain of victory. After collating results of eighteen local governments in the state, INEC announced Obaseki winner of September, 19, 2020 governorship election. Lagos State Okay Reopening Of Cinemas, Spas And Other Recreational Centres.

The Lagos State Government has okayed the reopening of cinemas, spas and other recreational centres in the state. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this during a briefing on Saturday. Like most public places, cinemas and other recreational outlets were shut in March to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. But while some public places like markets, banks, airports, amongst others have been allowed to reopen, cinemas, beaches and other places of relaxation remain closed. Giving an update on the development, Sanwo-Olu’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, said cinemas and other recreational outlets must obtain the necessary clearance from the state safety commission before reopening.

LASUBEB Call Community Leaders For Schools Resumption

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has called on community leaders to help identify vulnerable children who may not resume next week because of one challenge or the other. The Board is also seeking their support to raise awareness about its blended learning programmes on radio and television as well as on various social media channels to ensure learning continues both in school and online after the resumption. Speaking at a meeting, chairman of LASUBEB, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King told the leaders who are also chairmen of School-Based Management Committees (SBMC) in the 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) that it was necessary to bridge learning gaps as children resume. He said COVID-19 safety protocols meant that schools cannot run fully for now thereby requiring staggered or shift classes to help pupils maintain physical distancing.

School building collapses in Lagos

A school building collapsed on Saturday at Ejigbo area of Lagos State. Two days before the resumption of schools in Lagos, a three-storey building housing Excel College at Iyana Ejigbo area of Lagos has collapsed. Providing update about the incident, the  Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the building collapsed on Saturday morning due to “visible distress.” The Lagos State Government earlier announced September 21 as the resumption date for schools in the state, which many preparations ongoing ahead of resumption during the coronavirus pandemic. According to eyewitnesses’ account, the privately-owned building belonging to Excel College had previously shown signs of distress and the school was planning to renovate the structure before the collapse.
