Breaking: IGP ban SARs nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed has scrapped the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS).

The IGP disbanded the police squad on Sunday, October 11, 2020, after days of demonstrations against the police unit by Nigerian youths.

The dissolution of the police squad that was infamous for human rights abuse was announced in a statement by the Force PRO, Frank Mba.

The statement said the disbandment of squad was in response to the yearnings of the Nigerian people, adding that all officers of the defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad will be redeployed with immediate effect.

The statement reads in part, "In the finest spirit of democratic, citizen-centred and community policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has today, 11th October, 2020, dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where they hitherto existed.
