Fabio Cannavaro has been named head coach of the China national team for next week's China Cup tournament.
Fabio is an Italian former professional footballer who is the manager of Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande and who also captained Italy to their World Cup triumph in 2006 has been called to China national team.
he won the Chinese Super Cup with the club last season, his first trophy as a head coach but missed out on the title by five points, finishing second behind Shanghai SIPG.
Cannavaro is considered to be one of the greatest defenders of all time and his spent the majority of his career in Italy, will take charge of the squad for the four-nation competition, which kicks off on March 21 with China facing Thailand in the semi-finals.
Uruguay and Uzbekistan are also participating in the event, which will be held in Nanning, with the final to be played on March 25.
The 45-year-old Italian will be advised by Marcello Lippi, who stood down from the head coach's role following China's exit from January's Asian Cup at the quarter-final stage.
The Chinese Football Association did not confirm whether Cannavaro's appointment would be permanent or only for the duration of the China Cup.
