Nasarawa Poly Suspend Staffs For School Fees Diverting
Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, Management has suspended four of its staff members for allegedly diverting school fees of about 90 students.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Silas Gyer, who made this known in Lafia while briefing newsmen, said the suspension of the staff would serve as deterrent to others, and also in line with the anti-corruption campaign of the government.
Gyer, who described the diversion of the fees, totally about N1.53 million, as unacceptable, said the management has since embarked on a disciplinary action with the aim of recovering the money, adding that some of the affected staff members have started making refunds.
He also said that due to the economic challenges in the country which have impacted negatively on projecting developmental plans and other essential services in the school, the polytechnic has scaled down its expenses in order to meet other basic academic needs of the institution.
According to him, the polytechnic has embarked on renovations and repairs of some classrooms and facilities, adding that the priority of the management is to provide a conducive learning environment.
“We have taken to the principle of discharging our responsibilities as management with prudence and sacrifice, which to the best of my knowledge all the management team have keyed into towards reaching our set out goal that will give us the deserved credit as an institution.
