Nigeria, Russia Sign Memorandum Of Understanding For Modern Railway

Nigeria, Wednesday in Sochi, Russia, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russia for the modernisation, development of railway infrastructure, rehabilitation of the existing Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) rolling stock-fleet and upgrading of workshops across the country. The MoU involves two Russian firms: Russian Joint Stock Company Russian Railway (JSCRR) and Transmash Holding, a private rolling stock manufacturing company. Signing the agreement on behalf of the Nigerian government, Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, stated that the move was to boost and fastrack the construction of the rail manufacturing company at Kajola, Ogun state. Amaechi, signed the agreement with CEO/Chairman, Joint Stock Company Russian Railway, Oleg Belozerov, during the Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia.

Tragedy Occurred Again At The Notorious Otedola Bridge,

Tragedy occurred again at the notorious Otedola Bridge, Lagos, along Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, in the early hours Wednesday, when many were feared dead in fatal multiple-accident. According to an eyewitness, Remilekun Abiola, the accident involving five vehicles, occurred about 8 am during the early morning downpour at Otedola Bridge, out ward Lagos to Berger. Though, the immediate and remote cause of the accident could not be ascertained at press time, but eyewitness attributed over speeding and sloppy nature of the road by Otedola Bridge, coupled with the heavy rainfall which affected visibility of motorists. At press time, one of the victims, an unidentified male, has been confirmed dead by men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA and Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, who raced to the tragic scene. Pogba and DE Gea Are Out Of Liverpool Clash

Manchester United will prepare for Sunday's Premier League clash against leaders Liverpool without the injured Paul Pogba and David De Gea, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Wednesday. French World Cup winner Pogba, 26, has failed to recover from an ankle problem while De Gea was forced off in Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Sweden on Tuesday. “Paul had an injury, he came back, he worked really hard. He played a couple of games, maybe played through the pain barrier,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. “He had a scan after the Arsenal game and maybe needed a few weeks’ rests in a boot so hopefully he won’t be too long, but he won’t make this game, no.” On De Gea, the United manager added: “I think he’ll be out.”

Six Buildings Burnt Down In Onitsha Fire Outbreak

No fewer than six buildings and shops were burnt on Wednesday at Upper Iweka, on Onitsha/Awka Road in Onitsha, after a 33,000-litre diesel tanker fell and caught fire. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Anambra Command, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, confirmed this to  News Agency of Nigeria  in Awka. He stated that the incident occurred at around 12:44 p.m. Kumapayi said that the Fire Service Officials got to the scene of the fire promptly but could not put out the fire as their water pump developed a fault. The tanker lost control due to brake failure, the head of the vehicle pulled out while the tank containing diesel fell into the gutter spilling its content on the road and it caught fire due to the spill. “The fire spread through the gutter and affected about six houses on the road and shops in Ochanja Market. “No life was lost and no other vehicle was affected. “The fire service got there on time but their pump developed a fault, they left the ...

Nigeria Chief Justice Swear in 38 SAN

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, will on Monday September 23, swear in 38 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) at the main courtroom of  the  Supreme Court. The swearing in ceremony, according to the Supreme Court’s Director of Press and Information, Festus Akande, is one of the several programmes lined up to herald the 2019/2020 legal year of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Akande said in line with the custom of the apex court during such programmes, the CJN will deliver a state-of-the Judiciary address which is ostensibly to highlight the performance of the Supreme Court, and by extension, the Nigerian Judiciary in the outgoing 2018/2019 legal year. He recalled that out of the 117 legal practitioners that applied for the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2019, 38 were successful at the end of the rigorous exercise

The National Stalwart of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has won African Democracy Award for his efforts to grow democracy and good governance on the continent. A nd Ethiopian Prime Minister,  Abiy Ahmed was also awarded. The award was conferred on them at the 4th Africa Political Summit and Diamond Awards in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, where the two political figures were hailed for their huge commitments to democracy, freedom of speech and socioeconomic and political developments of their countries.
