$1.8Billion Contact Awarded To CRCC

The China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) signed $1.851 billion contract to construct the Kano city light rail. Revealing this to the media yesterday, the company says it has receive provisional letter from Nigeria to go ahead with the projects. The receipt of the contract valid for three weeks from the day of award, after which “uncertainties” will prevail. The company analyse that the rail, with a total length of 74.3 kilometres, is expected to travel at the range of 100 kilometres per hour. ”100 kilometres per hour is as fast as moving from Lagos to Ibadan in 72 minutes.” According to the CRCC, the first phase of the project construction is billed to take two years, while the second phase of the four-line rail is expected to take another two years.

FG make N677Billion in Second Quarter

Federal Government retained revenue for the second quarter of this year stood at N677.88 billion, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Economic Report for the second quarter released yesterday said. Inline to the report, the figure is above the receipts in the preceding quarter by 34.2 per cent, but lower than the quarterly budget estimate by 33 per cent. The Federation Account accounted for 47.7 per cent of the total revenue. “Other Oil Revenue”, Federal Government Independent Revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Refund and Exchange Gain accounted for 30.0 per cent, 14.9 per cent, 4.1 per cent and 3.3 per cent. Provisional data indicated that Federal Government expenditure for the second quarter stood at N1.76 trillion, which was above the provisional quarterly budget estimate and the level at the end of the preceding quarter by 12.8 and 58.1 per cent. WILLY Wonka Star Died At Age Of 83

WILLY Wonka star Gene Wilder passed away at the age of 83, in his home. The family of the beloved actor said that the actor and writer died on Monday at his home in Stamford , Connecticut, from complications from Alzheimer's disease. The actor was a master at playing panicked characters caught up in schemes that only Mel Brooks could devise, including reviving a monster in Young Frankenstein. Wilder, most famous for his role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1989

JTF Commander kill in Kaduna

The Joint Task Force (JTF) Commander in charge of Kakuri community, Kaduna South Local Government Area of Kaduna State,  Buhari Ahmadu Tanko, has been reportedly killed by unidentified assailants. Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Aliyu Usman confirmed the incident. He said, the late Tanko, 27 was murdered by hoodlums while attempting to stop them from stealing from the premises of defunct Kaduna Textile Limited located in his catchment area. ASP Usman said the incident occurred at about 3:26 hours of Monday 29th August 2016, making it difficult for the police to make immediate arrest of any suspect in connection with the killing. He however said investigation into the matter has already been launched and the culprits will soon be fished out to face the full wrath of the law

Apple to unveil new iPhone

Apple on Monday sent out invitations to a “special event” on September 7 in San Francisco, where it is expected to unveil a new iPhone model. In the company’s usual enigmatic style, it provided little more that the date, time and place to the invitation-only gathering set for the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium near San Francisco City Hall. Apple has maintained a rhythm of introducing updated iPhone models on an annual basis, timing introductions to coincide with the year-end holiday shopping season. Rumors include talk of an ‘iPhone 7’ that will boast improvements to software, cameras and processing speed along with doing away with jacks for plugging in wired headphones. California-based Apple could also use the event to showcase updates to other products, such as its smartwatch and laptop computers.

Suicide Car Bomb Attack Army Camp kill 60 in Yemen

Suicide car bomb attack on army training camp in Yemen’s second city of Aden killed at least 60 people on Monday, medical sources said. A security official said that the attacker drove his vehicle into a gathering of new recruits at the camp in northern Aden. The assault killed 60 people and wounded 29 others, medical sources from the three hospitals where the victims were taken.  Security officials had provided an earlier toll of 11 dead. The port city, the temporary base of Yemen’s Gulf-backed government, has seen a wave of bombings and shootings targeting officials and security forces. Attacks in Aden are often claimed by jihadists from either Al-Qaeda or the Islamic State group, which have both taken advantage of the chaos in Yemen to make gains in southern and southeastern regions.
